The JEE Main exam is one of the largest engineering entrance tests in India, attracting millions of candidates each year. On April 11, 2026, the National Testing Agency (NTA) released the provisional answer key for the JEE Main 2026 Session 2, which was conducted from April 2 to April 8, 2026. This year, approximately 11.23 lakh candidates participated in the computer-based test, held across 566 examination centres in 304 cities in India and 14 cities abroad.

Candidates can now access their response sheets and question papers to evaluate their performance. However, the release of the provisional answer key has not been without controversy. Many students have expressed their frustration regarding discrepancies in the Chemistry exam, with some demanding immediate corrections and accountability from the NTA. One student lamented, “WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?? RELEASE THE CORRECT ANS KEY ASAP AND ISSUE AN APOLOGY REGARDING THE MENTAL TORTURE YOU HAVE GIVEN TO THIS SHIFT CHILDREN.”

In response to the growing concerns, the NTA has advised candidates to wait for clarification regarding the discrepancies before submitting any objections. Candidates are allowed to challenge the provisional answer key for a fee of ₹200 per question, but the agency has cautioned that the fee is non-refundable, even if the challenge is accepted.

NTA officials have acknowledged the inconvenience caused to students, with a spokesperson stating, “NTA regrets the inconvenience caused. Candidates are advised not to make any payments related to challenges for these until an official clarification is issued.” This statement reflects the agency’s commitment to addressing student concerns while also managing the objection process, which requires supporting documents for justification.

The final answer key is expected to be released on April 20, 2026, and candidates are encouraged to analyze their responses and raise objections if necessary. As part of its efforts to improve communication, the NTA has also started sharing exam-related information through social media, allowing students to receive real-time updates, exam alerts, and essential information in one place.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding the exact nature of the discrepancies in the Chemistry exam, but the situation highlights the ongoing challenges faced by the NTA in managing such a large-scale examination process. Observers note that the agency’s responsiveness to student feedback will be crucial in maintaining trust and ensuring a smooth examination experience in the future.
