Warwickshire Women have announced the signing of India top-order batter Pratika Rawal for the remainder of the 2026 domestic season. The 25-year-old is expected to bolster the county side’s batting lineup in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup. Rawal will be available for selection starting from Warwickshire’s next One-Day Cup fixture on August 19.
This move marks Rawal’s return to competitive cricket following her recovery from a knee injury. The injury had previously sidelined her from India’s one-off Test match against England at Lord’s. She sustained the injury during an India A match in Taunton on July 1, an incident that required stitches and prevented her participation in the significant Test.
Impact on Warwickshire’s Season
Warwickshire currently holds the fifth position in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup standings. The team is aiming to secure a top-three finish to qualify for the knockout stage of the tournament. The club anticipates that Rawal’s arrival will provide additional batting strength at the top of the order during the crucial closing stages of the competition.
Head coach Ali Maiden expressed enthusiasm for Rawal’s signing, describing it as “fantastic.” He added that her inclusion would “only strengthen our line-up as we look to finish the season on a positive note.” The club stated that her addition would reinforce the squad as they seek a strong conclusion to the season.
A club statement welcomed the India opener, noting that her calibre would enhance the team’s prospects. “It’s a great signing for the team, and we are most pleased to be able to welcome Pratika to Edgbaston. Our position in the One Day Cup table at the moment is a good one, and bringing in a player of Pratika’s calibre can only serve to strengthen our team as we aim to end the season on a positive note,” the statement read.
Rawal’s International Career and Expectations
Rawal has established herself as a prominent batting talent for India since her international debut in December 2024. She holds a record for being the fastest woman to achieve 500 ODI runs, reaching this milestone in just eight innings. Her contributions were also significant during India’s successful Women’s ODI World Cup campaign in 2025, where she scored 308 runs, including a century against New Zealand, helping the team secure the title.
Despite her success, Rawal missed the final victory over South Africa in the 2025 World Cup due to injury. She also made her Test debut in March against Australia in Perth, where she scored 63 runs in India’s second innings. Her recent injury, sustained while playing for India A in their second one-day game against England A in Taunton, also caused her to miss India’s recent win in the historic Lord’s Test against England.
Rawal shared her excitement about joining Warwickshire, stating her eagerness to experience county cricket. She mentioned hearing many positive things about the club and is keen to contribute to the team’s success. “Testing myself by playing in England will be a great experience for me, and I’m also looking forward to walking out at Edgbaston, which is such an iconic ground in world cricket,” she said.
Warwickshire has recorded five wins and five losses, along with one no-result, from their 11 group games played so far in the competition.
