Mandhana’s decisive innings

Manchester Super Giants captain Meg Lanning also contributed to the chase, scoring 24 off 18 balls. Lanning herself was dropped when she was on six runs. She initiated her innings with a six and two fours before being caught by Annabel Sutherland. Lanning commented on the team’s cohesion, stating, “We’ve gelled together really nicely, on and off the field, to get two wins on the board without playing our best cricket is a really good sign.” Regarding Litchfield’s dropped catch, Lanning added, “You take them, you get some luck, on other days you are out to a blinder so it comes around.”
For the Sunrisers, who batted first, Jonassen was run out early after scoring seven runs. This unfortunate incident occurred when fellow Australian Maitlan Brown deflected Bryony Smith’s powerful drive onto the stumps while attempting a caught-and-bowled. Litchfield also had a second chance after being dropped at backward point when she was on one run. Despite this, she did not fully capitalise to the extent Mandhana did, making 31 off 26 balls before being caught at long-on.
Annabel Sutherland then took over for the Sunrisers, scoring 35 off 23 balls before miscuing Brown to wide mid-off. She had previously hit Brown for 10 runs off the previous three balls. The Sunrisers appeared to be in a strong position for victory when four wickets fell for 14 runs, including Brown being run out for a duck after facing one ball due to a poor call by Mandhana.
However, Mandhana recovered from this error, delivering a performance that ultimately led her team to victory. Her unbeaten 88 runs were the highest score of the match played on Tuesday.
