This summer, TTD has spent approximately two crore rupees to enhance facilities for pilgrims at the Tirumala temple, aiming to provide relief from the heat during the summer rush.
Before these changes, pilgrims faced long waits and limited services in sweltering conditions. The experience often left many feeling exhausted before they even reached the temple.
Now, TTD has taken decisive action. They have arranged shaded shelters stretching from Batagangamma Circle to Gogarbham Dam Circle and up to the Outer Ring Road. Mobile water drums are stationed throughout the area, ensuring that pilgrims can stay hydrated while navigating the crowds.
The impact is clear. With a total of 16 medical centers available, TTD aims to address health concerns promptly. Additionally, they have made an extra 3.50 lakh laddus available for distribution during this busy period, ensuring that every devotee can partake in this sacred offering.
Accommodation policies have also shifted. TTD now prioritizes families over solo travelers, reflecting a commitment to accommodating larger groups who visit together. However, solo pilgrims often find themselves without room—an ongoing challenge given Tirumala’s limited capacity.
To enhance overall pilgrim services, TTD has provided 1,152 barbers, including 269 women, across various rest houses for those wishing to participate in traditional rituals. This not only supports local employment but also enriches the cultural experience for visitors.
A total of 9,000 lockers are now available for pilgrims to secure their belongings while they explore the temple grounds. This addition addresses previous concerns about safety and convenience.
Experts note that these improvements come at a crucial time when footfall is expected to rise sharply during peak summer months. With temperatures soaring, officials believe these measures will significantly enhance the overall pilgrimage experience.
The next few months will be telling as TTD continues to adapt its services to meet the needs of thousands visiting each day.
