May 1 lpg rule changes

may 1 lpg rule changes — IN news

New LPG rules from May 1 may further tighten booking and delivery systems amid rising fuel prices. The government, alongside oil marketing companies, is implementing these changes to manage the increasing demand and costs associated with domestic and commercial LPG.

In recent months, anxiety around fuel prices has spiked, fueled by geopolitical tensions like the ongoing US-Israel conflict with Iran impacting energy markets. As a result, domestic LPG cylinder prices rose by ₹60 last month, while commercial cylinders experienced multiple price hikes — an initial increase of ₹144 in March followed by another nearly ₹200 hike on April 1.

Key changes in the LPG booking system:

  • Booking intervals for LPG cylinders have increased in both urban and rural areas.
  • OTP-based delivery is now mandatory for many users to enhance security.
  • Aadhaar eKYC verification is required for a significant portion of customers.

Online bookings dominate the market, accounting for nearly 98% of total requests. This shift reflects a growing reliance on digital platforms, especially as traditional methods face scrutiny amidst rising demand.

Sujata Sharma, a government spokesperson, urged citizens to remain calm: “Citizens are advised to avoid panic purchase of petrol, diesel and LPG as the government is making all efforts to ensure availability of petrol, diesel and LPG.” This statement aims to reassure the public during these uncertain times.

The current lock-in period for booking LPG cylinders stands at 25 days, which has raised concerns among consumers about accessibility and affordability. Whether LPG prices will rise again on May 1 remains uncertain as officials have not confirmed any further adjustments.
