Thakkali Srinivasan Passes Away at 72

“Deeply regret to inform that Producer/Director/Composer Thakkali Srinivasan passed away due to health complications in Bengaluru,” said Nikil Murukan, a close associate.

Thakkali Srinivasan, a celebrated figure in Tamil cinema, passed away on March 10, 2026, at the age of 72. His career began in 1987 with the film Ivargal Varungala Thoongal, marking the start of a prolific journey in the film industry.

Over the years, Srinivasan produced several landmark films, including Manasukul Mathappu in 1988 and Nalaya Manithan in 1989. His contributions extended beyond production; he also directed and composed music for Jenma Natchathiram, a notable remake of the classic horror film The Omen.

Additionally, he played the antagonist in the Kamal Hassan-starrer Soora Samharam, further showcasing his versatility in the industry. His last directorial project was Aduthathu, inspired by Agatha Christie’s novel And Then There Were None.

In his later years, Srinivasan was known for his philanthropic efforts, running an ashram and living with his adopted children. This aspect of his life highlighted his commitment to giving back to the community.

His passing has left a significant void in the Tamil film industry, where he was recognized not only for his artistic contributions but also for his humanitarian work. “A successful producer who produced some landmark films like Ivargal Varungala Thoongal, Manasukul Mathappu, Nalaya Manithan, Jenma Natchathiram, Athisiya Manithan, Witness, and many more films,” his legacy will be remembered fondly.

The final rites for Thakkali Srinivasan are scheduled to be performed on March 11, 2026, in Bengaluru. “His last rites will be performed in Bengaluru tomorrow,” confirmed Nikil Murukan.
