“Mission Karmayogi is a flagship initiative of the government to create a future-ready civil service, aligned with the vision of efficient, transparent and citizen-centric governance,” stated Dr. Alka Mittal, highlighting the ambitious goals of this transformative program.

On November 2, 2023, in New Delhi, the Department of Personnel and Training, the Capacity Building Commission, and Karmayogi Bharat will kick off a week-long event known as Sādhana Saptah. This initiative is part of the broader Mission Karmayogi, which was launched in 2020 to enhance the capacity, performance, and efficiency of civil servants across India.

The Sādhana Saptah aims to strengthen the culture of capacity building among civil servants, providing diverse learning opportunities for skill enhancement and self-development. This program is structured around three guiding principles: Technology, Tradition, and Tangible Outcomes, ensuring a holistic approach to training.

“Sādhana stands for Strengthening Adaptive Development and Humane Aptitude for National Advancement,” the initiative emphasizes, reflecting its commitment to fostering a workforce that is not only skilled but also adaptable and humane.

As part of Mission Karmayogi, the government has introduced a dedicated capacity-building program for scientists and academicians, addressing a significant gap where professionals from these backgrounds often transition into leadership roles without formal exposure to governance, budgeting, and administrative decision-making.

This initiative is designed to equip public officials with the competencies required for efficient, citizen-centric administration, focusing on critical skills such as leadership, effective communication, and digital governance.

The iGOT Karmayogi platform, a digital learning resource for government officials, supports this mission by providing access to a wealth of knowledge and training materials.

With a goal set for 2047, the initiative envisions a Viksit Bharat, or Developed India, where civil servants are well-prepared to meet the challenges of modern governance.

As the Sādhana Saptah unfolds, it is expected to draw significant attention from various stakeholders, furthering the dialogue on capacity building in the public sector.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding specific outcomes from this week’s events, but the overarching aim remains clear: to create a future-ready workforce capable of delivering efficient public services.
