The recent protests by factory workers in Noida, India, have escalated dramatically. Initially sparked by grievances over low wages, the unrest intensified in Phase 2 after Haryana raised its monthly minimum wage from ₹14,000 to ₹19,000. In stark contrast, the minimum wage in Uttar Pradesh remains at a mere ₹13,000, leading to growing discontent among workers.

On the day of the protest, tensions flared, resulting in violence that saw several vehicles vandalised and at least one set on fire. Reports of stone pelting emerged, causing significant damage to property in the area. The situation prompted a heavy police presence to restore order and ensure the safety of both workers and the general public.

District Magistrate Medha Rupam addressed the situation, urging workers to continue their duties peacefully and to avoid falling prey to rumours or misinformation. She emphasized the administration’s commitment to addressing worker grievances and ensuring their welfare.

In response to the unrest, the district administration announced a series of measures aimed at improving conditions for workers. Factories have been directed to provide a weekly day off for every worker and to pay double for any overtime worked. Furthermore, workers are assured that their annual bonuses will be disbursed before November 30.

To facilitate immediate assistance, a control room has been established, available 24×7 for worker support. Additionally, the administration has mandated the formation of Internal Complaints Committees in all workplaces to prevent sexual harassment, aiming to create a safer working environment.

As the situation develops, officials are monitoring the protests closely, and further measures may be implemented to ensure stability and address the workers’ demands. The unrest highlights the ongoing struggle for fair wages and better working conditions in the region, reflecting broader economic disparities within India.

Fire Breaks Out in Uttam Nagar

A major fire broke out in a cluster of jhuggis at Mansa Ram Park near the fish market in Uttam Nagar, Delhi, gutting around 80 shanties. The fire was reported at approximately 11:57 PM on Wednesday, with the fire department receiving information a few minutes earlier at 11:50 PM.

Before this incident, the locality had recently witnessed tension following a violent incident during Holi celebrations, which had led to the apprehension of 16 individuals. The community was still recovering from the aftermath of that violence when the fire erupted.

In response to the fire, more than 20 fire tenders were initially deployed, a number that later increased to around 28 as firefighters battled the flames for several hours. The situation was brought under control at around 3 AM on Thursday, with cooling operations continuing for several hours afterward to prevent any fresh flare-ups.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported according to police, and hundreds of residents managed to escape in time due to the swift evacuation carried out by police and firefighters. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Kushal Pal Singh confirmed, “All inhabitants of the shanties were safely evacuated, and the fire brigade was called to the spot.”

In a decisive moment, a police officer prevented a potential explosion by moving a locked car fitted with a CNG kit away from the fire, showcasing the quick thinking of emergency responders.

Authorities confirmed that around 80 shanties were completely destroyed in the blaze, leaving many residents displaced. The cause of the fire remains unclear, and details remain unconfirmed.

The incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by communities in areas prone to such disasters, particularly in the wake of recent tensions. As the investigation continues, local officials are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.

As the community begins to assess the damage and seek assistance, the swift response from emergency services has been crucial in preventing loss of life. The focus now shifts to recovery and support for those affected by the Uttam Nagar fire.

Background on Food Safety Concerns

The food safety commissionerate conducted a major crackdown on expired food products in Jaipur. This operation revealed alarming practices, including the operation of a warehouse under suspicious conditions with an expired food license.

Details of the Jaipur Raid

During the raid in Jaipur, authorities seized and destroyed 1.5 lakh kg of expired food products, which included items such as noodles, ketchup, mayonnaise, and energy drinks. The food safety team collected samples, seized stock, machines, and sealed the premises, indicating a serious breach of food safety regulations.

Drug Interception in Arunachal Pradesh

In a separate operation in Arunachal Pradesh, police intercepted 26 grams of heroin with a street value of Rs 1.37 lakh. The heroin was recovered from a sling bag possessed by a suspect during a police raid, leading to a case being registered against the accused under Section 21 (b) of the NDPS Act, 1985.

Fake ED Raid in New Friends Colony

In New Friends Colony, New Delhi, two individuals were arrested for staging a fake Enforcement Directorate (ED) raid. The suspects coerced family members and confiscated mobile devices, escaping with approximately ₹3-4 lakh and seven luxury watches.

Investigation and Arrests

The police traced the suspects’ route using over 350 CCTV feeds, leading to their identification and subsequent arrest. During the investigation, authorities recovered an ITBP Dy Commandant uniform and a fake ID card, further complicating the case.

Next Steps

Officials have indicated that further investigations will continue in both the food safety and drug-related cases. Observers expect that these incidents will prompt more rigorous enforcement of food safety regulations and drug laws in the affected regions.
