• Prepaid smart meters will function like postpaid ones.
• Consumers will receive monthly bills with a 15-day payment window.
• Old outstanding bills can be paid in 10 easy installments until April 30.
• Bills will be calculated based on electricity consumption from the first to the last day of each month.
• Notifications will be sent via SMS and WhatsApp directly to mobile phones.

The Energy Minister, A.K. Sharma, emphasized that this initiative prioritizes consumer convenience. “This step has been taken keeping consumer convenience in mind,” he stated. He further mentioned that the billing system would now be simpler, ensuring timely information reaches consumers.

If issues arise, consumers can file complaints through the 1912 portal. Additionally, special camps will be set up by the government to address problems related to smart meters and billing.

The government has also issued strict directives regarding electricity supply, aiming for a seamless experience for all users. As these changes roll out, it’s expected that they will significantly improve user satisfaction and reduce complaints related to power outages.
