Sweden‘s victory probability was 9.5 percent, and 15.4 percent of matches were level after 90 minutes. The co-hosts Mexico will face Ecuador. Their only previous World Cup encounter saw Mexico win 2-1 in the group stage of the 2002 tournament. The Opta supercomputer simulations suggest Mexico has a 47.1 percent chance of winning in normal time, while Ecuador‘s chance is 23.7 percent. Factoring in extra time and penalties, Mexico‘s chances of reaching the Round of 16 increase to 61 percent, with Ecuador having a 38.9 percent probability of progressing.

Several teams have already secured their places in the Round of 16. These include Canada, who defeated South Africa 1-0, and Brazil, who beat Japan 2-1. Paraguay advanced after stunning Germany on penalties following a 1-1 draw, and Morocco progressed by defeating the Netherlands in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw.
