PM Kisan 22nd Installment to Benefit Over 9.32 Crore Farmers
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release the 22nd installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) from Guwahati, Assam, on March 13, 2026. This initiative will see more than ₹18,640 crore transferred directly into the bank accounts of over 9.32 crore farmer families across the country.
With this installment, the total amount disbursed under the PM Kisan scheme will exceed ₹4.27 lakh crore. Each eligible farmer family receives financial assistance of ₹6,000 per year, distributed in three equal installments, a crucial support mechanism for many in the agricultural sector.
In this round, over 2.15 crore women farmers will also receive financial assistance, highlighting the government’s focus on empowering women in agriculture. Shivraj Singh Chouhan, a prominent figure in the initiative, stated, “This timely assistance helps farmers purchase essential agricultural inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides.”
The PM-KISAN scheme, initiated in February 2019 under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, has significantly boosted demand in the rural economy and reduced farmers’ dependence on debt. Chouhan emphasized that the scheme has encouraged agricultural investment, stating, “The PM-KISAN scheme has boosted demand in the rural economy, reduced farmer’s dependence on debt and encouraged agricultural investment.”
Farmers can conveniently complete their e-KYC from home using a face-authentication-based mobile app, ensuring easy access to the benefits. Additionally, the ‘Know Your Status (KYS)’ module allows beneficiaries to check their payment status and eligibility, promoting transparency in the process.
The government has also introduced a ‘Voluntary Surrender’ facility for affluent farmers, ensuring that the benefits reach genuine farmers. A robust verification system is in place to remove ineligible or deceased beneficiaries from the list, reinforcing the integrity of the program. Chouhan noted, “Prime Minister Shri Modi has placed special emphasis on ensuring that PM-KISAN benefits reach only genuine and eligible farmers.”
As the PM-KISAN scheme continues to evolve, it operates through India’s Digital Public Infrastructure, which enhances transparency and efficiency. The AI-based voice chatbot ‘Kisan-eMitra’ provides information related to PM-KISAN in 11 regional languages, making it accessible to a broader audience. Observers expect that the ongoing support will further strengthen the agricultural sector, although details remain unconfirmed regarding future expansions or modifications to the program.
