Indane Gas Booking Issues Cause Long Queues in Lucknow
Residents in Lucknow are facing significant challenges in securing Indane gas cylinders due to ongoing issues with the online booking system. Long queues have formed outside LPG distributing agencies as customers struggle to book their refills amid technical difficulties.
The problems stem from a technical snag that has rendered the online gas booking through the IVRS helpline and other digital systems inoperable. Customers have reported waiting for hours to book cylinders, with some resorting to purchasing them on the black market for Rs 1,050, significantly higher than the regular price of around Rs 900.
Many residents expressed their concerns about running out of gas before their refills could be secured. One customer, Hasan Faisal, remarked, “I bought a cylinder for Rs 1,050 while the regular rate is around Rs 900. In a crisis, we have to manage somehow because there is no supply.”
Additionally, the IVR system imposes restrictions, disconnecting consumers who attempt to book a second refill within 25 days of the previous booking. This has further complicated the booking process for many users.
Despite the reported issues, LPG companies claim that the booking system is functioning normally. However, customers continue to face difficulties, with some unable to connect to the Indian Oil Corporation booking helpline despite repeated attempts. A woman even had to seek assistance for her gas booking as it was not processed.
In a related incident, a Bengaluru-based customer, Madhu Menon, accused Indane of fraud, stating, “Got this message saying my last cylinder was delivered on 25 Feb and I can’t order again till late March. Except I haven’t ordered a new cylinder since early 2025! Then I discovered clear fraud!” Menon highlighted concerns about cylinders being delivered to individuals other than the rightful owners.
The disruption in gas supply has been attributed to a shortage of commercial LPG cylinders, exacerbated by geopolitical issues involving Iran, the US, and Israel. In response, the Centre has revised the priority order for domestically produced natural gas.
As of now, consumers are encouraged to utilize alternative digital booking methods, such as SMS booking, missed call services, or mobile applications, to navigate the ongoing challenges. However, the effectiveness of these alternatives remains uncertain.
Agency staff have acknowledged the situation, stating, “There is a server issue right now. It should be resolved soon.” Yet, the timeline for resolution remains unclear, leaving many customers in a state of anxiety regarding their gas supply.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the full extent of the issues and the timeline for resolution. As the situation develops, residents are left hoping for a swift return to normalcy in the gas booking process.
