Complaint Filed Against Hardik Pandya
“I believe it is an insult to the national flag,” stated advocate Wajid Khan Bidkar, who has filed a complaint against Indian cricketer Hardik Pandya. The complaint alleges that Pandya disrespected the national flag during celebrations following India’s victory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
The incident occurred after India triumphed over New Zealand by 96 runs in the final, held at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Videos of the celebrations went viral on social media, showing Pandya dancing and lying down with the national flag wrapped around him.
Bidkar argues that Pandya’s actions violate the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971. “According to Section 2 of the 1971 National Flag Act, we should respect the dignity of the national flag,” he emphasized, highlighting the importance of the flag as a symbol of the nation.
The complaint was submitted at the Shivaji Nagar police station in Ahmedabad, but it also holds significance in Pune, where Bidkar insists that the national flag represents the entire country.
India’s victory in the T20 World Cup marked a historic milestone as the first team to win the title on home soil and the first to secure consecutive titles, having previously won in 2007 and 2024.
The police have confirmed receipt of the complaint but have not provided further details on any potential action. “Let’s see what happens next. I have filed the complaint,” Bidkar remarked, indicating that legal proceedings may follow.
As the situation develops, the implications of this complaint could resonate beyond the cricketing world, reflecting broader sentiments regarding national symbols and their treatment.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding any official response from Hardik Pandya or his representatives regarding the allegations. The outcome of this complaint may set a precedent for how similar cases are handled in the future.
