In a significant push for electric vehicles, the Technology Development Board (TDB) has signed an agreement with InfinityX Innovations Private Limited to develop automated battery swapping infrastructure in Telangana. This initiative aims to revolutionize electric mobility operations by creating IoT-enabled battery swapping stations that can complete a battery swap in under 40 seconds.
Shri Rajesh Kumar Pathak, Secretary of the TDB, emphasized the importance of this development, stating, “Accelerating the deployment of efficient and scalable charging alternatives is critical for the growth of India’s electric mobility ecosystem.” The project is expected to contribute to a standardized and interoperable battery swapping network across India.
In tandem with this technological advancement, the Telangana government is introducing discounts of up to 20% on electric two- and four-wheelers for state government employees. This first-of-its-kind initiative could lead to savings of up to Rs 4 lakh per employee, benefiting around 5 lakh government employees in the state.
The push for electric vehicles in Telangana aligns with broader trends observed in Europe, where countries like Germany and France reported battery electric vehicle (BEV) market shares of 22% and 27%, respectively, in early 2026. Denmark has also seen a remarkable increase in BEV market share, rising by 17 percentage points compared to the previous year.
As the electric vehicle landscape evolves, companies like Mahindra Electric, Ola Electric, Gravton Motors, and Ather Energy are also making significant contributions to this burgeoning sector. Their efforts, combined with the new battery swapping technology, could pave the way for a more sustainable and efficient transportation system in India.
While the initiative marks a promising step forward, observers are keenly watching how the implementation unfolds and whether it will meet the expected outcomes. The success of this project could set a precedent for other states in India to follow suit in promoting electric mobility.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the timeline for the rollout of the battery swapping stations and the full extent of the discounts available to government employees. However, the commitment to enhancing electric vehicle infrastructure in Telangana is clear, signaling a transformative shift in the region’s approach to sustainable transportation.
