India Secures Historic Victory
In a remarkable display of skill and determination, India won the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title for a record third time by defeating New Zealand by 96 runs on March 9, 2026, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
India set a formidable target of 256 runs for New Zealand, showcasing their batting prowess throughout the match. New Zealand, however, struggled to chase down the target and was bowled out for 159 runs in just 19 overs.
Jasprit Bumrah was instrumental in India’s victory, earning the Player of the Match award for his outstanding performance, which included taking 4 wickets. His efforts were pivotal in dismantling the New Zealand batting lineup.
Celebrations and Rewards
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a substantial bonus of $14.24 million for the victorious team, reflecting their commitment to rewarding excellence in cricket. This victory also comes with a prize of $2.34 million awarded by the ICC for winning the tournament.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the team’s efforts, saying, “By winning the T20 Cricket World Cup, Team India has proven that the confluence of determination, restraint, and self-confidence is the fundamental mantra for success in life.” Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, added, “The team’s exceptional performance throughout the tournament and the vigorous display of mettle has brought glory and pride for the nation.”
