Arshdeep Singh Fined for Code of Conduct Breach
Arshdeep Singh has been fined 15 percent of his match fee following a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 final against New Zealand.
The incident occurred in the 11th over of New Zealand’s innings when Singh threw the ball aggressively towards Daryl Mitchell, hitting his pads. This action was deemed inappropriate under Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which prohibits throwing a ball at or near a player in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match.
As a result of the breach, one demerit point has been added to Singh’s disciplinary record. This is his first offence within a 24-month period, which may mitigate the severity of future penalties.
Singh accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Andy Pycroft, eliminating the need for a formal hearing. The ICC stated, “There was no need for a formal hearing as the Indian bowler accepted the sanction proposed by Andy Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees.”
Despite the incident, India secured a decisive victory in the final, defeating New Zealand by 96 runs to clinch their third T20 World Cup title. The match took place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, where the Indian team showcased a dominant performance.
Observers note that maintaining discipline on the field is crucial, especially during high-stakes matches like the World Cup final. The ICC’s swift action in this case underscores the importance of adhering to the Code of Conduct.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding whether Singh’s demerit point will affect his eligibility for future matches, but the incident serves as a reminder of the standards expected from players at the international level.
