Airtel Axis Bank Credit Card Changes Announced
Axis Bank has announced changes to the Airtel Axis Bank Credit Card, altering cashback mechanics and removing airport lounge access. These modifications will take effect on April 12, 2026, marking a significant shift in the card’s benefits.
The Airtel Axis Bank Credit Card previously offered a robust cashback structure, including 25% cashback on Airtel payments, capped at INR 250 per month, and 10% cashback on utility payments via the Airtel Thanks app, also capped at INR 250 monthly. Additionally, users enjoyed 10% cashback on purchases from Swiggy, Zomato, and BigBasket, along with 1% cashback on other spends.
One of the appealing features of the card was the inclusion of four complimentary domestic lounge visits per year. However, with the upcoming changes, domestic lounge access will be removed from the card benefits entirely, which may disappoint frequent travelers.
Under the new structure, cashback caps will now depend on the amount of base cashback earned in the same statement cycle, introducing a more complex system compared to the previous straightforward cashback offerings. Furthermore, the cashback on Swiggy, Zomato, and BigBasket has been replaced with a 10% value back on Zomato, Blinkit, and District Movies, with a maximum value back of INR 200 per partner per month. This change will require users to meet a minimum order value of INR 499 for Zomato and Blinkit to qualify for the cashback.
These changes dilute the simplicity that made the Airtel Axis Bank Credit Card popular among consumers. The card was previously regarded as one of the strongest cashback cards in the sub-INR 1,000 annual fee category, attracting a significant user base. The new terms may lead to a reevaluation of its appeal in the competitive credit card market.
Observers expect that these adjustments could impact customer satisfaction and card usage, as users may find the new mechanics less beneficial than before. Details remain unconfirmed regarding how existing cardholders will transition to the new terms and whether any additional benefits will be introduced to offset the changes.
As the April 2026 implementation date approaches, customers will be closely monitoring how these changes will affect their spending habits and overall experience with the Airtel Axis Bank Credit Card.
